One of the most recent unsigned hypes in HipHop goes by the name of Jay Electronica. With his latest fire “Exhibit C” he created a true internet bumrush. Despite the fact he has no album out, he is thriving off of featurings, mixtape songs and co-signs. Last friday Jay Electronica did a short show in Amsterdam. Now instead of throwing questions at Jay, I decided to put the spotlight on his DJ, DJ TJ the King to found out who he is and see what effect this hype has on him.
Every J. Dilla fan knows that February really is Dilla month. So when I went to Brooklyn beginning of this month, I of course had to go to one of the J. Dilla tribute events that was held that weekend. My homegirl Iveriani organized the One Wont Do event with her peoples and the line up for that evening was crazy.
One of the artists that paid a tribute to the late great producer, was Homeboy Sandman. In between all the “celebrity rappers and DJ’s” that were up in that spot (not to mention Ma Dukes herself as well), I got a hold of Homeboy for a few minutes. He explains in short why he has so much love for Dilla and plugs his upcoming album to the viewers. Shout out to TastyKeish for handling the camera.
One of the reasons I went to Jamaica was the Jazz & Blues festival. But mainly because I was invited by my good friend Victor who happens to be the manager for the world famous Third World band. Again, riding around in Kingston and Montego Bay with Cat Coore was an experience. This band exists longer than I do.
10.000 people showed up at last day of the festival, the last evening, just to see Third World close the festival with a bang. Before they went on stage they took out a few minutes for me to talk about their anniversary tour and the new album Patriots.
