It’s a Wonderful Life

“How are you?”
-”I’m great!”
“Why?
-”Because life is wonderful!”

That’s what I have been answering lately, to the question how I am doing. In the past this was not my usual answer. In fact, this was never my answer. Luckily, I’ve seen the light, so to say, and see how beautiful life is, when you really open your eyes to it. As corny and cliche as it may sound, everything around me is amazing. The creation of life by God, is the biggest miracle, in life. We take everything for granted. Everything. Waking up, opening our eyes, listening to music, smelling the air (whether smoggy or fresh), etc.

MC Deams shares words on Keith “Guru” Elam

Rest in Peace Keith Elam. In the Hip Hop world better known as the legendary MC Guru, founder of Gang Starr. April 19th he passed away after a long battle against cancer. Ever since his passing, there has been an enormous outrage on the Internet regarding his spokesman, Solar. The allegedly written letter by Guru that showed up after his death has been questioned by just about everybody that knew him, whether personally or as a fan.

As we were able to see Solar being interviewed by MTV’s Sway and Premier having put out a statement regarding Guru’s passing, I found it interesting to ask someone else’s point of view, other than the previous two mentioned. Someone who was also familiar with Guru and has worked closely with him. Deams, a Dutch MC and one of the ‘grandfathers” of Hip Hop in The Netherlands, was signed with Gang Starr back in the early 90’s.

Whatever happened to the MC?

“Whatever happened to the MC? Times done changed for the MC.
Every woman and man wanna MC, but for what? I tell ya, MC-in aint for you.”

That line comes from De La Soul’s “Supa Emcees” on the Stakes is High album from 1996. That’s 14 years ago but this line is more relevant than ever. To my opinion, the “golden era” of Hip Hop is somewhere between 1988 and 1993. So for that song to come out in 1996 it was already starting to make sense. But again, its makes even more sense today. What ever did happen to the MC? And no I don’t wanna make this a blog complaining about there’s no real Hip Hop out there anymore, cause there is, trust me. I mean, look at the amazing artists I come across and do interviews with just to put them out there for people to see that there still is dope music, and fresh too.
